Ryan Thomas-Palmer
"We are each our own worst critic." - Ellen Hendriksen
I embodied this quote when I was four years old. Until I was five, I refused to draw; I couldn't color inside the lines. I thought you were supposed to color within the outline, and I believed I was doing it wrong. Then, when I was five I saw an outline of a unicorn, and I decided to try again. I drew inside the lines, and drew 100 more of the same exact unicorn with the same exact pink Crayola marker.
Now, when I am in my studio, I go into an almost meditative state, and I just draw. I love to see the finished product, even when it is different from what I had in mind. I often incorporate social and political activism in my pieces to show people my views and to give a voice to those who are not comfortable enough to speak. My goal is to evoke an emotional connection between my artworks and the viewers of my artwork.
When I was 16 years old, I got into Rhode Island School of Design. I plan to work for the next year and a half to help pay for me to go to college. If you would like to support me through this journey, links to my various social media and Patreon are at the bottom of this page. Anything helps!

Art Fairs
I have done two art fairs at Forsythe middle school, where I sold a total of about eight drawings. I am also currently working on applications to galleries and fairs.
Art Contests
I am one of 18 participants who won the Michigan Art Education Association (MAEA) Art Contest. Two of my works are now going around the state to be seen in different counties in different galleries. I have also received a total of four Gold Keys and two Honorable Mentions from the Scholastic Competitions in 2021 and 2022.
Commissions
I have done numerous commissions for family members and people I don't know. I often get asked to draw dogs, or family portraits. My contact information for commissions is both at the bottom of the website and to the upper right where it says contact. Feel free to contact me if you would like to request a commission!
Prices:
My hourly rate is $25 per hour, and I add cost from shipping and matting (usually $20 total for shipping and matting). I usually take about 10-60 hours on each commission, and I set a cost with the consideration of the customers satisfaction.
